Today we have a guest post by Lummis Beukes.
Best photographs are not simply the moments captured but, it is the perception of the photographer towards the elements on his or her screen. So let’s keep it simple – amazing photos are clicked and created at the right moment. Being new in the field of photography, you must have come across a number of technical terms but then, there are few photography effects too that you need to know, understand and use.
It is the blur effect that is given to the out of the focus area on a photograph. This is the effect produced by the light on the out of focus lighted elements. The blurriness in the image is caused by the aperture shape and aberrations of the lens. Many photographers create bokeh areas on the image using the shallow-focus technique. There are two kinds of bokeh – good and bad. A bad one can directly take away the focus from the subject.
Panning is a movement on the image in the vertical, horizontal or rotational directions. Here the photographer has to stay with a moving subject while taking the shot. This kind of effect is given to the moving cars during races. Definitely, it takes a lot of practice to achieve perfection but, it is worth giving a try.
This is one of the tried and tested effect in the world of photography. Apart from photographers, even painters and artists make use of this technique. Here the photo is divided into three parts both vertically and horizontally to create nine equal parts.
Here, it is made sure that the subject is not positioned in the middle of the frame and that gives an illusion of moving or dynamic image. Again, this effect gets polished with practice while there are some, for whom it comes naturally.
We all love the sunset and the time before that. The first hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset is called as the golden hour. The photos taken at this time altogether gives a special effect and drama to the scene. If you have plans to get the best of this effect waste no time and be quick before the light fades away.
During this time of the day, the sunlight comes to us indirectly and so it is soft and warm compared to any other hour of the day. This light is responsible for creating such an effect on your frame.
Fill flash technique is used by photographers to fill up the darker places on the photo. Here in such photos, the background layout is mostly brighter compared to the subject. So fill flash technique is used to make the subject look bright without bringing any changes to the background. Here shutter speed and aperture adjustment are done correctly to get the precise effect.
Mostly this kind of effect is used when the subject is in shade or there is more light in the background. The effect simply brightens up the subject without altering the other areas on the image.
There are more effects to learn and bring into work when it comes to photography skills. For beginners these effects can definitely get the job done. Not only that, it could leave an ever-lasting impression on the people around you.
